The role of influenza virus gene constellation and viral morphology on cytokine induction, pathogenesis, and viral virulence.

چکیده
1. H5N1 viruses that cause severe disease in humans are potent inducers of proinflammatory cytokines in contrast to seasonal influenza viruses, and this may play a role in the mechanism of H5N1 pathogenesis. 2. H5N1 viruses are predominantly spherical in morphology. Virus morphology does not influence the ability to induce proinflammatory cytokines. 3. The NS1 viral protein may play a role in the potency of proinflammatory induction. 4. The H5N1 haemagglutinin and neuraminidase do not appear to transfer the high cytokine phenotype. 5. The ability to induce cytokines is a polygenic trait, involving a combination of different viral genes.

Differences in cytokine production in human macrophages and in virulence in mice are attributable to the acidic polymerase protein of highly pathogenic influenza A virus subtype H5N1.
BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of influenza A virus subtype H5N1 (hereafter, "H5N1") infection in humans is not completely understood, although hypercytokinemia is thought to play a role. We previously reported that most H5N1 viruses induce high cytokine responses in human macrophages, whereas some H5N1 viruses induce only a low level of cytokine production similar to that induced by seasonal viru...
متن کاملEvaluation of H9N2 avian influenza virus dissemination in various organs of experimentally infected broiler chickens using RT-PCR
Widespread occurrence of H9N2 low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) viruses in many Asian countriesduring the past decade has resulted in the need for evaluation of the pathogenesis of H9N2 virus infection. In this study, tissue tropism and dissemination of A/Chicken/Iran/772/1998(H9N2) virus throughout the body of broiler chickens were investigated. The clinical signs, gross lesions and antibo...

The spread of influenza viruses in multiple bird and mammalian species is a worldwide serious threat to human and animal populations' health and raise major concern for ongoing pandemic in humans. Direct transmission of the avian viruses which have sialic acid specific receptors similar to human influenza viruses are a warning to the emergence of a new mutant strain that is likely to share mole...

Introduction: Avian influenza viruses are considered as a serious threat to human and animal health. An increase in expression of proinflammatory cytokines and type I IFN genes, as well as host cell death responses contribute to the pathogenesis of influenza infection. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the growth dynamics of subacute avian influenza virus in human respiratory alveolar epithel...
متن کاملThe Potential Effect of Glycyrrhiza Glabra on Early Step of Influenza Virus Replication
Background and Aims: The emergence of drug-resistant influenza viruses has become a serious threat for human and animal populations. Glycyrrhiza glabra (Gg) is a traditional medicine clinically used for the treatment of viral respiratory infection symptoms in most countries. We evaluated the effects of the herb on influenza virus replication in human lung cultured cells (A549) following the det...
